Father Saturnino Urios University (FSUU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Arlyn M. Floreta, Ph.D., as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research, effective August 1, 2024. Dr. Floreta’s extensive experience and dedication to the field of education make her a valuable addition to the university’s management team.

Dr. Floreta’s career at FSUU began in 1994, when she joined the institution as a grade school teacher. Her exemplary performance and passion for teaching led to her appointment as a Supervising Instructor in the Teacher Education Program in 2002. In 2011, she was appointed Dean, a role she has served with distinction up to the present.

A distinguished alumna of FSUU, Dr. Floreta completed her Bachelor of Elementary Education as Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn her Master of Arts in Education, receiving the Best in Thesis award, and subsequently obtained her Doctor of Philosophy in Education, all from FSUU.

She is a prolific writer, researcher, and sought-after resource person. Among her notable research works are “Children of Incarcerated Parents: Stories of Survival and Resilience”, “Educating for the Market: Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), ASEAN Reference Qualifications Framework, and the Challenge of Philippine Higher Education“, “Continuing the Work of Christ: Exemplifying Values Through Gender Integration in the Curriculum”, “Philippine Aptitude Test for Teachers (PATT) Scores as Determinants in the Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET)” and “Peace Advocate Urian: Intended or an Achieved Outcome.”

Dr. Floreta also served as the Project Lead for “Mangyat Butuanon: Integration of Butuanon Culture in Grades 4-6 Curriculum,” reflecting her commitment to preserving and integrating local culture into education. In addition to her academic and research endeavors, Dr. Floreta has been an active trainer and speaker at various training sessions and seminars. Her expertise extends to Curriculum Mapping, Syllabus Design, Assessment, Instructional Design, Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), Instructional Systems and Design, and Classroom Management.

She is a member of the Philippine Association for Teacher Education and a former president of the Association of Deans in Teacher Education-Caraga. She also serves as a member of the Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQUAT) and an assessor of Institutional Sustainability Assessment (ISA) for the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in Caraga.

FSUU is confident that Dr. Floreta’s leadership and expertise will greatly contribute to the university’s academic excellence and the continued success of its educational programs. The university looks forward to the innovative and impactful initiatives that she will bring to her new role as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research.
