The Arts and Sciences Program (ASP) is the heart of the school. As the heart, it pumps blood to circulate throughout the body, the ASP “pumps” out teachers to circulate across programs in the university, filling each program’s needs in the general education area. These teachers facilitate the learning process of all freshmen as well as sophomore students in the tertiary level of the school in three crucial aspects. To build their character, the teachers shape them into culturally and spiritually sensitive, humane, nationalistic and socially responsible and emotionally mature individuals. To prepare them professionally, their mentors train them to be astute and critical thinkers, to be competent and skillful so they are well-prepared to take on the challenges of their chosen fields. To encourage their inquisitiveness and curiosity, they are engaged in research. The program aligns itself with the university’s research advocacy to direct the students not only toward global competitiveness through education but more importantly, to instill in them the value of research and affirm its multi-faceted functions in unlocking the unknown, assimilating the past and bringing it to the present and future, and as a basic tool in reaching sound judgments and trustworthy conclusions. Thus, to achieve these ends, the Program thereby equally burdens itself with responsibility of maintaining its faculty updated, skilled, effective and efficient. Dr. Elvira V. Chua Dean, Arts and Science Program |
